The Gold Beowulf & Grendel 2024 is the first release in a three-coin collection within The Royal Mint's Myths and Legends range. The collection is based on Beowulf, the famous Old English epic in which the warrior Beowulf faces a series of legendary enemies. This first coin focuses on his battle with the monster Grendel.
The coin contains 1 troy ounce (31.1 grams) of 99.99% pure gold, measures 32.69 mm in diameter and has a face value of £100.
Beowulf & Grendel design
The reverse was designed by David Lawrence and depicts the dramatic battle between Beowulf and Grendel. Beowulf is shown confronting the fearsome monster that terrorises King Hrothgar and his people. The design includes the inscription ‘BEOWULF & GRENDEL’, the year 2024, weight and gold fineness.
The obverse features the official coinage portrait of King Charles III, designed by Martin Jennings.

Reverse
